About the YD25 timing chain
The timing chain system on the Nissan Navara D40 and Pathfinder R51 is known to suffer from wear and chain failure. Some versions use a single-row chain in part of the timing drive. A duplex conversion replaces that setup with a double-row chain and the matching parts.
Our conversion kits are designed for the engine versions listed below. The parts differ between the earlier Euro 3/4 engines and the later Euro 5 engines, so it is important to order the correct version.
When should the timing chain be checked?
A rattle on startup, unusual timing-chain noise or a change in how the engine runs should be investigated. Chain wear can also occur without an obvious rattle. A quiet engine is not proof that the timing chain is in good condition.
There is no single mileage at which every YD25 timing chain will fail. The condition of the chain, guides, tensioner and sprockets should be checked against the correct Nissan service information for the engine. If you are unsure about the service interval, check the maintenance information for your exact model and engine.
If the engine cuts out, becomes difficult to start or develops a running fault, the timing chain is only one possible cause. The fault should be diagnosed properly before parts are replaced. Disconnecting a camshaft sensor is not a reliable way to prove that a chain is stretched.

D40 2006-2010 (Euro 3-4)
Application: Nissan Navara D40 and Pathfinder R51 with the YD25DDTi engine up to 2010. Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines.
This option converts the original simplex timing-chain setup to a duplex (double-row) chain system. It includes our German-made conversion sprocket which fits the original D40 vacuum-pump shaft. You do not need to strip or modify your original vacuum pump to fit the sprocket.

- German-made duplex conversion sprocket for the original D40 vacuum-pump shaft
- Timing cover gasket
- Two essential O-ring seals
The duplex conversion sprocket is included with this option. It is not an extra part that needs to be purchased separately.
The kit is supplied with the matching timing-chain components for the selected engine version. Please check the pictures and the options above the "ADD TO CART" button for the exact parts supplied.

D40 2010-2012 (Euro 5)
Engine: YD25DDTi and YD25KAI3.
This option includes the conversion parts from the earlier kit plus the additional parts needed to fit the duplex upgrade to the 2010-2012 Euro 5 engine.
Please note: The timing cover gasket is NOT included with this option.
D40 2012-2016 (Euro 5)
Engine: YD25KAI3.
This option includes a similar duplex conversion kit, but some of the parts are different from the 2010-2012 version.
The 2010-2012 and 2012-2016 timing kits are NOT the same. Please select the correct version for your engine.
The later engines still use a single-row chain in part of the timing drive. Our kit is intended to replace that setup with a duplex conversion. The correct parts must be used for the engine version.
The timing cover gasket is NOT included with this option.
Water pump
It is worth checking the water pump while the timing-chain work is being carried out. If it is worn or leaking, replacing it at the same time can save having to dismantle the area again later.

Our duplex sprocket and other conversion methods
Some duplex conversions require the vacuum-pump shaft to be replaced along with the sprocket. Our 2006-2010 conversion uses a sprocket designed to fit the original D40 shaft. This avoids the extra work of stripping the pump to replace the shaft for that option.
The pictures below are from our original comparison material. When comparing conversion kits, check whether the original vacuum-pump shaft can be retained and what parts are included. The fitting requirements may differ between engine versions and suppliers.
